2019 Best Halloween Strategies to Boost Sales for Your Online Store

Are your stores prepared for this Halloween season? Or maybe you’ve already decided that a Halloween promotion isn’t really relevant to your e-commerce goals. After all, isn’t Halloween more about costumes and candy than about t-shirts and shoes?

While Halloween may not be at the top of your list of seasonal promos, you may not want to rule it out entirely. According to the National Retail Federation, 2018 was a big year for the Halloween retail industry.

Halloween 2018 Stats in Review

According to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey, total Halloween spending capped at around $9 billion in 2018, the second-highest recorded amount in the survey’s history. More than 175 million Americans celebrated Halloween last year and spent a record average of $86.79 per consumer.

As the study goes on to say, consumer confidence in buying Halloween products continues to remain at an all-time high, even in the face of global economic uncertainty.

Here are a few Halloween tricks & treats to spook your customers into buying from your custom products.

1. Add Halloween-themed products to your store

This is a no-brainer, of course. You can’t have a Halloween promotion without Halloween products to sell! With Kin Custom as your print-on-demand and dropship partner, you can simply upload your design and add products to your Kin Custom store or to your own sales channel. Plus, with no inventory, you won’t have to worry about whether your products will sell. If the item doesn’t sell, simply delete it from your store. If you’re looking for spooky print ideas, Instagram’s Explore page or Pinterest are great resources for inspiration.

Wholesale Options

Don’t have time to create a design of your own? We’ve got you covered. You can also export pre-designed Halloween wholesale products from our very own Kin Custom Premier brand to your store. Simply create an account, log in to Creator Studio, click the Wholesale tab on the left-hand menu, and begin browsing!

*Please be aware that all custom products sold wholesale must have Kin Custom Premier branding. No white label services available.

2. Creep an Eye on Creative Promotions

Halloween is all about costumes, candy, and community. Imagine an entire holiday devoted to scaring people!

So, have a little fun with your Halloween promotions and think outside the box! For example, if your goal is to get existing customers to shop, offer them a flash sale in a spooky newsletter. Or, if your goal is to increase brand awareness, try a prank video. Whatever you do, be sure your content strategy aligns with your overall business goals. That said, don’t be afraid to try something different from your usual marketing channels. Here are some of our favorite examples:

ModCloth Halloween Email Promo

We love this time-sensitive email promo from ModCloth for a number of reasons:

  • The placement of 30% off at the top of the email grabs your attention immediately.
  • LAST CHANCE!” conjures up feelings of urgency and extreme FOMO.
  • “We Got You, Boo,” is cute and catchy. If it doesn’t make you want to shop, it’ll at least get a chuckle out of you.
  • There are CTAs at the top and bottom of the email, so that the user doesn’t have to keep scrolling to take action.
  • The original email is a GIF flips through different Halloween items to show variety, which is much more exciting than a static image.

3. Be Mindful of Kin Custom’s Shipping Dates

If you’re working with Kin Custom to create your Halloween products, remember to order products by the following dates below so that they get to you or your customers on time. We move quickly to print, cut and sew all products within 72 hours and then ship them for free in 7 to 10 business days. If you want your package to reach your destination faster, choose our Expedited Shipping option at the checkout. Once the package has left our facility, it is then your responsibility to check with our carrier on the status of your order.

4. Get Your Products Featured On Our Social Channels!

Another great way to boost awareness of your products is to get them featured on our social media channels. We’re always looking for great custom products and shops to showcase on our Instagram and Facebook handles. Last week, we were blown away by Rachel Ramey’s spooky prints and gave her a shout out on our weekly Friday Feature.

So how do you get featured on Kin Custom social? There’s really no firm criteria for getting featured, but you’ll definitely stand out to us more if you

  • Have an awesome design
  • Create custom products under your own brand label
  • Show flat-lays (or photos of the just products themselves)
  • Have photos of others wearing the product (instead of the mockup images)
  • Use the hashtag #kincustommade to increase your chances of getting noticed by our team
